July 31, 2014 01:54 PM

P1010023The Second Annual Texas Shootout Team Tennis Tournament was held July 26 and 27 at the Angel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, New Mexico as a fund raiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  49 players from Angel Fire, Albuquerque, Taos, New Mexico and Amarillo, Texas participated with the cowboys playing Saturday, July 26 and the cowgirls Sunday July 27.  The tournament raised $8,000 for LLS.  Brett and Becky Hall had raised another $2,000 in Oregon this spring with tennis clinics and a pro-am.  The format was a round robin team event.  Each team played three doubles matches.  Each match consisted of a giant 41 point tie- breaker.

The Texas Shootout dinner party was held Saturday evening at the Pub'n Grub restaurant in Angel Fire.  Brett Hall told his personal leukemia story.  Lori Medik, Campaign Manager for LLS gave a presentation and the keynote speaker Cliff Richey gave an inspirational speech to over 73 people.  Cliff is a former world class tennis player from San Angelo, Texas.  There was also a silent auction and raffle.  Brett Hall, tournament director, was elated about the success of the event.  "Everyone from the sponsors to the participants really stepped up with tremendous donations and support for the event."  You can visit our Texas Shootout website at or.texasshootout.llsevent.org if you are interested in making a donation.
