Sanchez To Attend Tennis Teachers' Confererence

DeeSanchezAlbuquerque 10 and Under Tennis instructor Dee Sanchez  was recently named as a recipient of a multicultural coaches scholarship to attend the 2012 USTA Tennis Teachers Conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City, August 24-27. 


Sanchez 
(pictured, right) has been a dynamo in Albuquerque the last few years, particularly in the 10 and under realm with afterschool tennis. She began an elementary afterschool 10 and Under program, has conducted several "Tennis Is Fun" Play Days for 5-12 year olds, assisted as a court monitor for Jr. Team Tennis rally tournaments, and worked with Albuquerque's nationally-recognized NJTL program VAMOS. in addition, Sanchez has volunteered at other events like USTA League Championships and the USTA Pro Circuit  ColemanVision Championships women's event.

She has also attended or conducted several outreach promotional efforts  with Youth Development, Inc. and National Health Alliance holding local clinics or information booths to get the word out about tennis in Albuquerque.

National scholarships of $1,000 are given to a coach from each USTA Section to attend the conference. In exchange for the scholarship, coaches are also asked to assist with the events of Arthur Ashe Kids' Day on Saturday, August 25, and to help in some capacity at the USTA Tennis Teachers' Conference. Only coaches who have never been are allowed to receive the scholarship.

The Tennis Teachers' Conference is a great opportunity for new coaches to pick up valuable skills and network with some of the top recreational coaches in the game.  It is always held during the first week of the US Open.  

" I have never attended the (Tennis Teachers' Conference) in New York before, but I know that I will take away valuable, useful information to from the events there,' said Sanchez. "I'm excited about the opportunity."
