April 20, 2018 06:07 PM

The New Mexico Youth Tennis Foundation has announced that 2017, the 20thyear of the Coleman Vision Tennis Championships, a USTA Women’s Pro Circuit event, was the final year for the tournament, a USTA Women’s Pro Circuit Event.  Over the 20 years of the Coleman Vision tournament the funds raised have been earmarked for the promotion of youth tennis throughout New Mexico, first through the Southwest Tennis Foundation and then through the NM Youth Tennis Foundation, created in 2007.

Through the generosity of its sponsors and supporters, especially title sponsor Coleman Vision, this tournament has raised well over $ 200,000 for the mission of the New Mexico Youth Foundation (“NMYTF“), which is “education and opportunity through tennis” for New Mexico youth.  Dr. Stephen Coleman, Director of Coleman Vision, a locally owned and operated LASIK surgery provider, has been the sponsor of this event for the last 20 years, providing incredible support for the mission of the NMYTF and youth tennis in New Mexico.

The programs supported by the Coleman Visiontournament include the USTA Northern NM Tennis Association’sMid-School League, the High School Junior Varsity/Club League, summer Jr Team Tennis, elementary school programs, as well as travel and training assistance for promising junior tennis players in New Mexico.  These programs could not have been nearly as successful without the support of Dr. Stephen Coleman, his wife, Erica Coleman, and the many sponsors and volunteers from the New Mexico tennis community. The legacy of the Coleman Vision Tennis Championships extends beyond the World Class women players that have had the opportunity to fine tune their games here to the thousands of young people of New Mexico that have been exposed to tennis through this event and their participation in after school tennis programs supported by it.
