Jasper Names UNM Women's Assistant Coach

Lobos shield colorALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head women’s tennis coach Erica Perkins Jasper has announced that former Arizona Sun Devil tennis standout and Marshall assistant coach Kelcy McKenna has been named the assistant women’s tennis coach.
 
“I am very excited to welcome Kelcy to the Lobo family,” Jasper said. “She is a young, energetic up-and-coming coach and she will bring an exciting level of hard work and enthusiasm to the program.”
 
McKenna arrives at New Mexico after a year stint with Marshall as the Thundering Herd’s assistant tennis coach. While at Marshall, McKenna assisted in the recruitment of student-athletes as well as coordinated compliance duties.
During McKenna’s time at Marshall, the Thundering Herd achieved a 13-10 dual match record and as Marshall advanced to the Conference USA quarterfinals.
 
Before coaching, McKenna was a four-year letterwinner for Sheila McInerney at Arizona State, where she achieved Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American status in singles and doubles. She was also ranked as high as No. 3 in the country in singles and No. 16 in doubles while at ASU, and won multiple tournaments including the 2009 ITA Riviera All-American Tournament, the 2010 Thunderbird and the 2010 Cal Nike Invitational.
 
McKenna was also a frequent NCAA participant as a Sun Devil, having qualified four times as a team participant, three times as a singles participant and twice as a doubles participant.
 
While at ASU, McKenna was a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year as well as a Pac-10 All-Conference First-Team Selection in 2009 and 2011.
 
McKenna also was a member of the Pacific Northwest Section/National Team and attained a No. 1 United States Tennis Association (USTA) ranking in singles and doubles for the Pacific Northwest region of the Women's Open Division in 2010.
