SW Section Community Coordinator News

Sara Stablein is the Community Coordinator for Northern New Mexico.  Some of the areas she is currently working with are Socorro, Raton, Farmington, Bloomfield, Aztec, Gallup, Grants, and Las Vegas.  Sara helps set up grassroots programs, team tennis, league tennis, professional events and more.  She works with local CTAs, Parks and Rec, and private facilities.  Sara has helped set up after-school programs, elementary school introductory tennis through PE programs, JV team tennis in Albuquerque, and helps conduct training for coaches in the mid-school programs.

APRIL UPDATE:  Farmington began their tennis season on April 5.   Sara is helping them move toward League tennis.  This fun starting day included the annual mixer along with team tennis sign-ups.  The Four Corners Tennis Asso. is trying to organize a USA Mixed League this year; they were also trying to find a sponsor to host a Challenger event but were unable to get one this year.  Mary Frances Leupold is beginning an after-school tennis program which will run twice a week for six weeks.

The JV tennis program is halfway through the season.  The girls teams' participating are St. Pius, LaCueva, Eldorado, Sandia Prep, Academy, Belen, Del Norte, and St. Mike's.  Boys teams are:  LaCueva, Eldorado, Sandia Prep, Academy, Valley, Belen, and St. Mike's.  End-of-season tournament will be April 25-26.  Sara would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping out.  Her number is at the bottom of this article.

Jemez Pueblo may be interested in setting up a summer program at the new recreation center.  Sara will be meeting with them soon to help set something up.

Sara will also meet with Santa Fe Indian School and Wings of America officials to see about including tennis in their afterschool programs.

Summer Team Tennis packets will be out soon.  Chloe Shi Odon, Dick Johnson, and Sara will be putting them together and getting them to all sites.  We will also post it on our website.

For additional information on setting up programs in Northern New Mexico, please feel free to contact Sara at 505-298-2259 or email her at stablein@southwest.usta.com.
