USTA Southwest Jr. Team Tennis Championships

Around 200 players from Southwest areas made their way to Scottsdale for this year's USTA Southwest Jr. Team Tennis Championships, August 1-3.
The event was the conclusion of local leagues held around the Southwest and, for a handful of teams, a continued journey on their way to USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships.
Three days of play at two locales in the Scottsdale metro area - The Phoenician Resort and Scottsdale Ranch Park showcased some excellent young talent and truly spirited competition.
A quick breakdown of this year's event is below:
18 and Under Advanced: 'Tanoan Heat' of Albuquerque's Tanoan Country Club captained by David Kraus and coached by Andy Cramer, went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, rolling past Scared Hitless of Southern New Mexico. The team won 18 of 20 lines.
18 and Under Intermediate: 'Los Americanos' out of Southern New Mexico (Las Cruces, NM) - swept past all comers in the seven-team field. The club went the weekend without losing a team match (6-0) and won 24 of 30 total lines, easily ahead of second place Encompass El Paso.
14 and Under Intermediate: Team Tanoan, captained by Emily Collis and Andy Cramer went through the event with an unblemished 6-0 record.
The Tanoan team won 25 of 30 lines, and finishing far in front of the second place Royals squad from Central Arizona .
The 12 and Under Intermediate champion was the Tanoan Tigers of Albuquerque, coached by Raul Scheller and captained by Andy Cramer.
The team went 3-1 in their team matches, winning 15 of 20 individual lines, and outpacing the second place Desert Aces (Central Arizona) by eight games (141-133) and one set (32-31).
All of the 14s and 18s divisions will now move on to the 2014 USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships in Cayce, South Carolina in October.
