August 8, 2016 11:17 AM

DwightAngel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, New Mexico hosted the Fourth Annual New Mexico Texas Shootout Team Tournament with the Cowboys saddling up on Saturday, July 23rd, and Cowgirls on Sunday, July 24th! The tournament raised $10,500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!  Brett Hall, Angel Fire Tennis Director and leukemia survivor organized the event along with his wife Becky. The tournament was awarded "Event Of The Year" in both the Northern New Mexico and Southwest USTA in 2014. This year's event drew 57 Cowboys and Cowgirls from Texas, Kansas, Albuquerque, Taos, and Angel Fire! 75 players and guests were treated to a barbecue dinner, auction and raffle at the Angel Fire Resort Hotel on Saturday evening, July 23rd.  Dwight Edwards (shown right with Brett Hall) who was a highly ranked junior in El Paso and currently works at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas was the keynote speaker.  He spoke on how tennis teaches you life skills.

AngelWomenThe event is a round robin team format consisting of three doubles teams.  Each individual match is a 41 point tie-breaker and players can purchase mulligans (extra serve after a double fault).  We recruit volunteers to keep score of all of the matches.  All the cowboys and cowgirls are shown right.
